Exercise not only helps to make your heart work more effectively, it also has a positive impact on how we feel, can help relieve stress and boost self-confidence.
We have a range of activities across our outstanding facilities for our customers and members to access, including gyms, swimming pools, an athletics track and a power-assisted exercise circuit based at The Feelgood Suite.

Our Classes
Getting fitter and living more healthily doesn’t have to mean going to the gym – we have over 100 different classes at our four leisure centres – each giving you a fun and stimulating way to reach your fitness goal in a sociable and supportive environment.
We have a huge timetable of classes for everyone – regardless of your age, experience and goals – that covers a whole range of fitness levels; from High Energy and Conditioning to improved strength, balance, flexibility and toning and Dance-based classes, which are amazing fun, full of energy and require no dancing experience; to Holistic classes that are a blend of fitness and relaxation, and being low impact are perfect for older people looking to live a healthier lifestyle, as well as water-based Aqua fitness classes, which are low impact on the body but highly effective and perfect for all ages.
Our Gyms
All our four gyms across Pendle offer outstanding facilities in a welcoming, positive and inspiring environment. Whatever your fitness goals, our gyms are the perfect places to make exercise part of your healthy lifestyle.
You’ll be using high-quality, effective equipment which has been chosen and endorsed by our experienced and qualified instructors and fitness professionals. Whether you are looking to build lean muscle, improve your cardio fitness, increase your flexibility and strength or simply just get moving a bit more than before, you will find equipment and apparatus to fulfil every fitness need and interest.
Personal Trainer
Whether you want to get in shape, train for a specific event, boost your energy levels or just need some motivational support – we’re dedicated to helping you succeed.
Our Personal Trainers will provide you with expert advice, support and a personalised training programme tailored around your goals.
All our fitness professionals are Level 3 qualified and with your determination, they can help you:
- Lose weight
- Tone up
- Increase your fitness levels
- Get you into the habit of exercise
Many of our trainers specialise in specific areas such as:
- Sports therapy
- Injury rehabilitation
- Strength building
Our personal trainers are available to both Activo members and non-members. Activo members are entitled to one FREE PT session a month as part of their membership.
Senior Activities
Our exercise classes and activities for older people have almost endless benefits for both the body and mind.
Staying active, meeting people and learning new skills are all ways to improve and maintain physical and mental health, which is why we are proud to provide so many options for Pendle’s older citizens.
You’ll be guaranteed a warm welcome and plenty of smiles at any of our Senior Activities sessions, which include:

- Pickleball
- Pilates
- Badminton
- Yoga
- Aquarhythmics
There is also our The Feelgood Suite which has a circuit of power-assisted exercise machines, perfect for people recovering from illness or with limited mobility.
Junior and Teen Gyms
Our Junior and Teen Gyms at all of our four leisure centres provide a safe, supervised environment for young people to enjoy exercise.
The Junior Gym at Pendle Wavelengths is dedicated to 8-15 year olds who want to get fit, with Hoist cardiovascular machines and rack weights specifically designed for younger users, to allow them to build their strength gradually.
The Teen Gyms at Pendle Leisure Centre, West Craven Sports Centre and Seedhill Athletics and Fitness Centre are for 13-15 year olds to exercise under the supervision of our expert instructors using some of the same equipment as our adult members.
So whether you are training for a sports team or specific challenge, have been advised to tackle your weight for health reasons or simply enjoy exercising, our Junior and Teen Gyms are available for you!
Feelgood Suite
The Feelgood Suite based at Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne, provides a range of power-assisted machines designed for anyone, regardless of age, mobility or fitness level – and perfect for people recovering from illness or with limited mobility.
Pendle Leisure Trust recognises that many people would like to – or have been advised to – increase the level of exercise they do, but due to health reasons or mobility challenges, believe a gym is not for them – Well, The Feelgood Suite is the answer to your prayers!
During a pre-defined, 30-minute circuit that exercises all the major muscle groups, each machine targets specific parts of the body with pilates-style movements. Staffed by professional fitness experts, the suite is an inspirational place filled with sociable chat and laughter. Our members are aged from 16-80 plus and we offer both mixed and ladies-only sessions.
There are trained staff on-hand at all times who offer regular fitness assessments and health checks and some of the benefits to using The Feelgood include, weight and inch loss, increased mobility – and almost as importantly, making new friends!

Are you looking to transform your health but need that extra push and motivation to help reach your goals? At PLT, we have devised a 12-week transformational journey to help with exactly that!
You can expect 12 weeks of fitness, nutrition, and mindset guidance tailored to you and to who you want to become. Whether you want to shed pounds, gain strength, improve your overall well-being, or just maintain a healthy lifestyle, we’ve got you covered.
Physio in Residence
Pendle Leisure Trust has its own physiotherapist in residence.
Gemma Smith – MCSP BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, HCPC Registered Chartered Physiotherapist – is working with the Trust to help members, customers and staff with their aches and pains.
Based at West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick, but available for all members and customers at each of our facilities to use, Gemma provides a sports injury clinic with a very hands-on treatment approach to help all ages with gym rehabilitation, hydrotherapy and sports massages.
Gemma has also created ‘Total Joint Rehab’ – a group physiotherapy course specifically designed for people with a new joint. Participants take part in group exercise rehabilitation classes, as well as having access to wound checks, specialist advice and education, with the added option of hydrotherapy sessions to further boost recovery.
Talented Athletes
Pendle Leisure Trust wants to give young people the opportunity to further their potential in the sporting world and has introduced the Talented Athletes Scheme, which recognises and supports individuals with true sporting talent in Pendle, who are working towards the highest levels of success in their chosen sport.
The scheme offers free, limited use of Pendle Leisure Trust’s swimming pools, fitness suites and exercises classes at Pendle Wavelengths in Nelson, Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne and West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick, as a means of assisting with training programmes.
