Swimming

Come and take a dip into one of our 3 swimming pools across Pendle

Our three swimming pools are great places for anyone to swim regardless of what type of session you are looking for. If you want adult lane swimming for fitness, a fun swim with the family or lessons, we have a pool and a timetable to accommodate all needs.

Our three pools are at Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne, West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick and Pendle Wavelengths in Nelson, all with so much to offer whatever you want from your time in the water.

All three of our pools have designated adult-swimming sessions for those who want to do some lengths in a calm, focussed environment – with ‘Early Bird’ sessions for those who want to get up extra early for a morning dip.

Swimming is also a perfect pastime to spend as a family, either simply swimming, playing games and having fun in the pools or challenging each other on the giant inflatables.

We provide lessons for all ages and abilities via the STA Learn To Swim Programme. All of our instructors are qualified professionals who pride themselves on making the sessions fun and rewarding, so learning to swim is enjoyable and progress is structured.

Pendle Leisure Centre Pool

Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne has a traditional 25m swimming pool for lengths, classes or our inflatable sessions.

It also has a brilliant learner pool, where little ones or learning adults can get accustomed to the water, build confidence and experience that magical moment when they realise they are swimming and nobody is holding on!

Swimming Lessons

West Craven Sports Centre now has spaces available for Non swimmers aged 4+ call 01282 666710 today to get your child booked on.

Learn to swim at least 25 metres unaided and understand the importance of staying safe around water with the STA Learn To Swim programme.

Anyone with children aged 3+ who have been waiting to learn how to swim – now is the time!

Our main aims in delivering these lessons are:

  • To provide a safe and enjoyable environment
  • To ensure that our teachers are qualified to provide the expertise necessary to develop good swimming techniques
  • To promote the care and understanding of individual needs
  • To encourage endeavors and achievements at all levels
  • To set high standards of assessment, ensuring that appropriate practices are used to achieve each level

Tadpoles

Tadpoles is a structured pre-school swimming lesson programme designed to build your child’s water confidence.

A child’s first learn-to-swim experience is important in terms of capturing and retaining their interest. We believe the best way to achieve this is to create a safe environment in which children can be introduced to water while having fun and by providing a progressive learn to swim programme that is both challenging and rewarding.

Crash Courses

We run ‘crash course’ style lessons for non-swimmers, suitable for children aged 3 years and over. These courses follow a structured lesson plan through the STA Learn to Swim Pathway.

The courses – four half-hour lessons from Monday to Thursday – take place during the school holidays.

Adult Only Swimming

Looking to do some ‘proper’ swimming? These slots on the timetable are adult-only swimming sessions, meaning you can pick your lane and get some serious lengths done without any interruption.

Get in a swim before work, do a few lengths during your lunch break or even once your little ones are all tucked up in bed!

Swimming is great exercise and you can really get into your zone and get the most from your swim with these adult-only times – which include ‘Early Bird’ sessions for those of you up at the crack of dawn!

Aqua Babies

Aqua Babies sessions are designed to help introduce your child to the water and build their confidence. All the classes are run by qualified swimming teachers who are on-hand to provide assistance and advice.

Babies are welcome once they have had their first injections or on the advice of your midwife.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING:

  • A swimming nappy – accidents can (and do) happen!
  • A warm bottle for after the swim if you are bottle-feeding or a snack if your baby has started solids. Swimming is hungry work!
  • A few of your baby’s bath toys to encourage a familiar, relaxed and fun environment

Female-only Swimming

We’re proud to offer female-only swimming sessions to give women a safe and discreet place to be able to swim if they feel uncomfortable about regular mixed gender swimming sessions.

We offer female-only Aquarhythmics sessions. These very effective classes in the pool use water as resistance – eliminating strain and impact while giving you the necessary benefits of improving stamina, strength and suppleness.

You will be taking part with people with similar abilities as yourself, with no male staff or members of the public present.

Waves & Slide

At Pendle Wavelengths, we do fun family swimming like nowhere else! Ask anyone in Pendle what they think of when you say to them Pendle Wavelengths and they will say either ‘it’s a pool with a great water slide’ or ‘it’s a pool with a great wave machine’!

We’re proud to offer one of the most enjoyable swimming experiences in the North West and we have been welcoming families to our pool for decades

Our water slide is over 130ft long with lots of twists and turns before you splash down into the plunge pool at the bottom. Make sure you get back into the main pool though if you hear the ‘Jaws’ music – because that means the waves are about to be turned on and it’s time to find your favourite spot to enjoy them!

Inflatable Fun

A fun swimming session for the children isn’t complete without inflatables in the pool!…. And we have some of the biggest, bounciest and most challenging inflatable fun in the North West!

Whether it’s for a child’s party or just some weekend swimming to burn off some energy, our pool inflatables are incredible fun for the little ones – and the not so little ones!
